The Merlin Trials, named after one of the most famous wizards who attended Hogwarts, are a series of puzzles all over the world of Hogwarts Legacy. These puzzles are easy to solve and, in some regards, mandatory if you carry a lot of gear around!

    What are Melin Trials?

As mentioned before, the Merlin Trials are a series of puzzles scattered throughout the world of Hogwarts Legacy that were left by the famous wizard Merlin.

These trials can be identified by a “Leaf” icon on your map. Once you find one of the Merlin Trials, you can activate it by using some Mallowsweet Leaves on the altar. You can acquire these leaves at the Magic Neep in Hogsmeade or grow them in a pot in the Room of Requirement.

Why should you solve the Merlin Trials?

Solving the Merlin Trials will increase your inventory size, which prevents you from going back and forth between your current quest and a vendor to sell obsolete gear all the time. This becomes especially helpful when you’re treasure hunting and you collect a lot of extra gear.

Once you have completed several trials, head over to your Collections tab to unlock the extra inventory space.

How to solve the Merlin Trials?

Once activated, a Merlin Trial requires you to look around the surrounding area and spot objects that have been activated by the Merlin Trials. These could be braziers that come up from the ground or giant rocks near the beginning of the trial.

Although some Merlin Trials are straightforward, others can be challenging. Particularly if you haven’t unlocked the necessary spells. To light braziers, you need to use Confringo or Incendo. While other Merlin Trials require you to use Accio or Depulso to move objects.

To help you solve specific Merlin Trials, refer to the objectives below which list the spells you need to use.

    Lighting braziers

    • Spells: Confringo or Incendo

Light nearby braziers or pillars that have risen from the ground. Sometimes, these need to be lit in a specific order.

    Move small stones or orbs

    • Spells: Accio

Drag the small stones or orbs onto a nearby round plate. In most cases, you need to move three sets of five stones or orbs.

Moving the ball into the bowl

    • Spells: Depulso, Levioso, Descendo and other spells that allow you to move objects.

Bring the ball to the bowl using movement spells. It is recommended to find the bowl first and then look for the best spells to move the ball.

    Destroy orbs on pillars

    • Spells: Basic Cast or Confringo

Destroy orbs placed on nearby (hidden) pillars. You can also use spells to destroy the orbs.

    Collect butterflies

    • Spells: Lumos

Locate nearby butterflies and use Lumos to lure them to the rocks at the start of the Merlin Trial.

    Parkour Stones

    • Spells: None

Climb on a stone structure and make your way to the last stone structure. You can simply complete this by running and jumping without touching the ground.

    Destroy Stone Pillars

    • Spells: Confringo and other spells that can destroy objects

Look for stones that can be targeted around the Merlin Trial. Simply cast Confringo to destroy the stones.

    Repair Statues

    • Spells: Reparo

Simply use Reparo to repair a structure or statue to its former glory.

    Matching Symbol Stones

    • Spells: Flipendo

Use Flipendo on a stone on top of a pillar. Do this until the symbols on both stones match.
