On July 15, ArenaNet dropped the first teaser for Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity, offering just enough the community enough to talk about. Set to launch on October 28, the trailer reveals a stunning new island, the return of the Inquest, and hints at elite specializations and upgraded mount mechanics.
Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity – First Look at the New Expansion
The next Guild Wars 2 expansion, Visions of Eternity, is officially launching on October 28. For most players, it’s just another fall release date, but for me? That’s the exact day I leave for a two-week holiday. I figured October would be a safe bet for travel. Flights were cheap, and there were literally 28 other days ArenaNet could have picked. But here we are. Looks like I’ll be diving into the expansion a bit later than everyone else.
Let’s get into the trailer and what we’ve learned from it. Below, you’ll find my first look of the trailer.
A New Setting and a Familiar Enemy
The first shots show ships approaching what looks like a new island. That already suggests we won’t be arriving by airship this time. Instead, we’re hitting the shores the old-fashioned way. It turns out the enemy we’ll be facing is the Inquest, an old threat we haven’t seen since Living World Season 4, back in the Sandswept Isles. That was in 2018 or 2019, so they’ve had plenty of time to regroup and come up with something new.
We also catch a glimpse of Isgarren, confirming his return to the storyline. The location, called Castorra, looks lush and mysterious. One standout visual is a floating tree that strongly resembles those found in the Sylvari starting zone—perhaps hinting at deeper lore connections.

Mount Upgrades and New Specializations
We briefly see a Skimmer mount firing projectiles, which could indicate that mounts will receive new combat abilities, similar to how the Warclaw gained skills in Janthir Wilds. This would be a great way to breathe new life into the mount system.

There’s also what appears to be an Elementalist (Evoker) summoning a fire-infused wolf. Could this be a new elite specialization that allows for animal summons tied to elemental attunements? It’s reminiscent of how the Catalyst used the Jade Sphere to channel energy.

Another frame shows a character wielding a rifle, flanked by either a pet or an enemy surrounded by floating gold. The visual style and recent teaser posts suggest this could be a Thief (Antiquary) specialization focused on high-risk, high-reward mechanics—possibly tied to cards or gambling themes.

And yes, the Mesmer (Troubadour (Bard)) finally makes an appearance. This one seems to be linked to the Mesmer, which lines up with the first class icon teased by ArenaNet on social media.

The post below was briefly published after the video was created and the article was written. The names in the article have been adjusted.
Familiar Faces and Features
Rytlock is back, and it’s always good to see familiar characters return. There’s also a scene with Raptors in close proximity to Inquest forces, could they be using them somehow? And while we’re on mounts, those Raptor combat skills look like something players might be able to unlock themselves.
The trailer ends with a beautifully animated logo, easily the most visually striking expansion logo yet. Visions of Eternity fits perfectly alongside Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, and End of Dragons in both tone and theme.
Pricing and Editions
ArenaNet has revealed the pricing tiers, and here’s a rough breakdown (converted from USD):
- Standard Edition – $24.99
Roughly €21 or £18. This is a bit cheaper than previous expansions, likely because the scope is more comparable to Janthir Wilds. A fair price if the content holds up in quality and replayability. - Deluxe Edition – $49.99
Around €43 or £37. Includes bonus skins, an Identity Repair Kit, and endless logging tools. Great value if you don’t already own the tools or if you care about the cosmetics. - Ultimate Edition – $74.99
Approximately €64 or £59. Comes with everything in the Deluxe package plus 4,000 gems—around $50 worth. If you were planning to buy gems anyway, this is a solid deal.
Final Thoughts
All in all, this was a great trailer. It gave us a peek at the new setting, teased elite specializations, showed off enhanced mount mechanics, and confirmed the return of the Inquest. The only downside? That release date. October 28. Right when I’ll be away from my PC.
Should I cancel the trip? Well… technically possible, but not really an option. I guess I’ll be joining the adventure a bit later, after the rest of you have already finished the story.
Save a spot for me in Castorra.
