From vast open worlds to fast-paced action combat, there’s something for every type of player to look forward to. Here’s a sneak peek at some promising MMOs set to release in 2023.
Ashes of Creation

Ashes of Creation is an upcoming MMORPG that uses a unique “node” system that dynamically affects the game world. Players will be able to directly impact the economy, NPC behavior, and even their surroundings through their actions. The game has been in development for a number of years and already has a large and dedicated fanbase. Many content creators, e.g. Asmongold, are anticipating its release. A release date has yet to be announced.
Palia

- Business model: Free-to-play with cosmetic microtransactions
Palia is a fantasy-themed MMO that has a focus on exploration and community building. The game promises a vast, open world for players to explore and a variety of activities to participate in. The game is being developed by Singularity 6, a small team of industry veterans, and is being funded through crowdfunding campaigns.
The game will be Free-to-play and has a shop where you can buy cosmetic items with real life money. There will be no Pay-to-win elements.
Project TL – Throne and Liberty

Project TL (Throne and Liberty) is an upcoming action MMORPG that is under developement by NCsoft. NCsoft is known for publishing other successful MMOs such as Lineage and Guild Wars. The game was formerly known as Lineage Eternal but now continues as Project TL/Throne and Libery.
The game has fast-paced combat and uses a ‘classless’ system. Project TL has been in development for a number of years and has undergone several delays. In 2022, there was a a closed beta for a selected number of players. Sadly no official release date has been announced.
The Riot MMO (League of Legends)

Riot Games, the developers behind the popular MOBA game League of Legends, are currently working on an upcoming MMO. It is expected to be set in the same universe as League of Legends and will most likely contain familiar characters. There is not much known about the MMO just yet but it could release in late 2023 or 2024.
Blue Protocol

- Platform: PC
- Business model: Free-to-Play with cosmetic microtransactions and battle passes
Blue Protocol is another upcoming MMO under development by Bandai Namco. This publishes is mainly known for the release of popular games such as Dark Souls and Dragon Ball Z. The game is set in a colorful, anime-inspired world and has variety of character customization options. The artstyle of Blue Protocol looks similar to that of Genshin Impact. The combat has strong a resemblance with Black Desert Online. Blue Protocol is currently in closed alpha testing in Japan, but no official release date has been announced.
